About Me
Takanori Kurokawa — Bonsai Concierge in Takamatsu
My name is Takanori Kurokawa.
I am based in Takamatsu, Kagawa — one of the most important production regions for pine bonsai in Japan.
I work as a bonsai concierge, connecting international clients with some of the most respected bonsai nurseries in this region.
In my teens and twenties, I spent several years abroad — living in the United States for three years and in Brazil for one year. During that time, I learned that the most meaningful experiences are not found in guidebooks, but through direct human connection: sharing meals, creating things together, and experiencing local life firsthand.
That perspective continues to shape everything I do.
How I Entered the World of Bonsai
My involvement in bonsai began unexpectedly.
Through a family connection, I was introduced to a bonsai nursery in Takamatsu. What started as an opportunity to assist with interpretation gradually developed into hands-on involvement in bonsai cultivation, maintenance, and export-related work.
Working closely with these trees every day, I became completely absorbed in their world.
What I Discovered
I realized that many high-value bonsai in Takamatsu are still relatively unknown outside Japan.
If these trees were properly introduced to the international market, collectors would immediately recognize their extraordinary qualities:
- Powerful trunks shaped over decades or centuries
- Exceptional nebari (root structure)
- Refined branch structure developed through long-term cultivation
- And above all, the stories — built across generations of craftsmen
These are not simply plants.
They are living works of art, carrying history, effort, and cultural depth.
My Role
I act as a bridge between worlds:
- Between Japanese producers and international collectors
- Between cultural value and market understanding
- Between access and execution
I provide:
- Direct access to high-quality bonsai
- Clear explanations of value and structure
- Guided visits and interpretation
- Coordination of export preparation and logistics
- Ongoing support after acquisition
My Belief
Experiencing truly exceptional bonsai changes how people see them.
Photographs and videos can inspire interest, but seeing real trees in person creates a deeper level of appreciation — and often, a lasting passion.
I believe that by connecting the right people with the right trees, we can expand the global bonsai community and create new opportunities for both collectors and producers.
Beyond Bonsai
My approach is rooted in the same philosophy that shaped my early travels:
To go beyond surface-level experiences,
and create meaningful, memorable connections.
Whether through bonsai, culture, or direct interaction with craftsmen,
my goal is to offer something that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
Let’s Work Together
